Immigration Basics: Inviting International Faculty, Staff, Scholars And Other Visitors To Duke
 
Objectives:
Presented by Visa Services and held at 402 Oregon Street. This class is designed to assist department representatives with issues, factors, and the general mechanics of the visa sponsorship process at Duke. This session will not include issues pertaining to international students or admissions. Topics will include an overview of terminology, processing times and procedures for specific visa categories (B—1, J—1, TN, H—1B, etc.), related legal obligations, and the implications of noncompliance. Tips on avoiding common pitfalls as well as coordinating sponsorship with academic appointments, credentialing, and payroll will also be highlighted.

Immigration Casework For Graduate Medical Education Programs
 
Objectives:
Presented by Visa Services and held at 402 Oregon Street. This annual training session is designed for training program staff and department liaison representatives. Learn the components and procedures required for sponsoring immigration of Duke house staff trainees. Examine specific immigration classifications, requirements for and conditions of sponsorship, and the related request assembly for commonly used visa types.
 
Prerequisites:
Immigration Basics and Duke G/L Accounts. Participants should also be familiar with Payroll policies and procedures, ACGME requirements, ABMS Board requirements, and the OGME process prior to attending this workshop.

This workshop is designed as the next step for department representatives after identifying an international faculty, staff, scholar, or other visitor to bring to Duke. The focus will be on specific immigration classifications, requirements, and conditions of sponsorship; as well as the related request assembly for commonly used visa types.

Immigration Basics and Duke G/L Accounts. Participants should also be familiar with Payroll and Human Resources policies and procedures, and the faculty appointment process prior to attending this workshop.
